In October 2009, photographer Alvaro Ybarra Zavala visited the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, producing a unique body of work documenting the armed political gangs knows as 'colectivos', and capturing a glimpse of some of the socio-economic issues affecting the people of Venezuela under the Hugo Chavez regime.

Alvaro returned to Venezuela in March 2013 to document the immediate aftermath of the death of the iconic socialist leader after his 2-year battle against cancer, the legacy left in the wake of his Bolivarian revolution, and the social, political, economic and religious factors that the population face in their everyday lives.
