
Ian Thomas Jansen-Lonnquist is an independent visual journalist and a freelance documentary photographer. A University of Vermont graduate with a B.S. in natural resource planning and minor in community and international development. His curiosity in people and the lives they lead has pushed him to explore the unnoticed corners of his home along the seacoast of New Hampshire and the mountains of Vermont where he has worked as a freelance and staff photographer for the Burlington Free Press since graduating in 2009. He aims to create intimate, personal and engaging images.
He focuses on issues of humanitarian, environmental and personal importance, his work has touched on economic unrest, state violence, trauma, mental health, homelessness, land rights, indigenous rights, and local food economies. His work has been published in local and national newspapers and magazines. He was the recipient of the Integrated Art Academy community school grant fund in 2011 and Yarka Vendrinska Photojournalism Memorial Award in 2010 and he has had solo and group exhibitions in New England.
