Born in Brussels, Belgium in 1979, Jan Rosseel is currently based in Denmark and The Netherlands/Belgium.
Jan initially started a career in cooking. After working in various renowned restaurants in France, Spain and New York he decided to study Chinese language and culture at Leiden University, The Netherlands.
During an exchange program at Shandong University, China, he chose not to study in class but on the streets. He picked up his camera, spent a month's salary on film, and started documenting the life of Chinese migrant workers.
He is currently a photojournalism student at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark. Mainly focusing on social issues, either big or small, he is constantly looking for the most suitable way to visually tell the story. He has been working on stories in China, Laos, Cuba, Israel, Palestine, Belgium and The Netherlands.
Most of the stories in this portfolio are in an ongoing state of production and will be altered and re-edited. Therefore this portfolio is in flux and is more of a stream of consciousness and awareness of the world around us.
