Your Veil Is A Battleground (Part 2)
Born in Iran (1988), Kiana Hayeri moved to Canada in 2005 to pursue her post-secondary education at Ryerson University. Soon she discovered the role that photography played as a way to bridge the language barrier. As a second-generation immigrant, Kiana’s work embraces a distinctive theme that illustrates her cultural background and captures the fragmented and complex layers of Iranian society. Focusing on young women, Kiana continues to document challenges Iranian people face, both in Iran and abroad.
Kiana attended Eddie Adams workshop in 2011, where she earned a National Geographic award to continue her project on immigrating teenagers. In 2011, She received a fellowship from IAAB foundation and additional funding by winning the Guernsey Photo Festival competition, which has allowed her to work on her personal projects in the past year.
