Ed Ou, who’s been working relentlessly this year in Somalia to documentthe war torn conditions of the country, completed a story for The NewYork Times on child soldiers used by Somalia’s transitional government.The story was published June 13, 2010. Here is a

The day after the child soldier images ran on the front page of The NewYork Times, a senator’s assistant in Illinois emailed Ed and asked for ahigh res copy of that very image. Ed sent the image, and that same dayit was used by Democratic Senator Richard Dubrin in his meeting with theSenate about the global abuse of children recruited as soldiers. Hereis the

Then the next day, The New York Times published a story about the UNvoicing its concern about Somalia’s children. Ed’s images from Somaliawere also used to illustrate the story. Here is a
