Galerie Huit Open Salon Photography Competition in Arles, France has chosen its 2011 finalists. Each year this prestigious competition chooses a theme and looks to showcase ground-breaking work. Emerging talent as well as veteran photographers from around that globe can submit work they think speaks to the chosen theme. This year’s theme was Transience. From the competition’s website: “How do we relate to a permanent state of transition, impermanence and the passing of time?” There are a number of ways to interpret the theme and this year, the competition decided Marco Di Lauro had a wonderful take on it.
Marco Di Lauro has had 10 of his images selected for the competition from his work in the Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Nairobi , Kenya. It is one of the largest maternity hospitals in the country and treats around 200 premature, abandoned or sick children and their mothers every single day. His images will be exhibited in Galerie Huit Arles during and alongside the renowned international photography festival Les Rencontres d’Arles in France from 4th Jul until 18th Sep 2011. They will also be exhibited in Galerie Huit Penang in Malaysia in January of 2012. Congratulations Marco!
