Families Flee Syrian War for American Suburbia

The civil war in Syria has created four million refugees and 11 million displaced people. Efforts to resettle any of those people in the United States were plagued by political controversy, and by the end of President Obama's term the country had admitted just over 10,000 Syrian refugees. President Trump has vowed to admit even fewer. At the end of 2015, photographer Andrew Renneisen visited several Syrian families settling in a Detroit suburb as they build new lives and navigate American culture.
