Julia Rendleman

Julia Rendleman (b. 1981) grew up in southern Illinois.  She graduated with a degree in political science from Loyola New Orleans in 2002 and will receive her postgraduate degree in photojournalism from Southern Illinois University in December 2010.
Julia has worked on many photo stories about rural life in the Midwest.  Recently she won a Getty Images Student Grant for Editorial Photography for her story about five incarcerated women at Dixon Springs IIP, a military-style prison boot camp.  Qualifying individuals can vacate their original sentences for 120 successful days at the boot camp.  The story draws to light the issues of criminal warehousing and alternatives to traditional incarceration programs.  Her other acknowledgments include first and second place for multimedia work from the Illinois Press Photographer's Association in 2009.
After graduation Julia hopes to continue taking pictures and telling stories.
