David Hogsholt is based in Shanghai, China.
Danish photographer David Hogsholt came upon photography in 1997, when at five in the morning at a wedding, a documentary photographer friend of the groom suggested he give it a try. He went on to be an assistant at a collective in Copenhagen. In 2000, David enrolled in the art photography school Fatamorgana and a year later the Danish School of Journalism.
He interned at Berlingske Tidende—a Danish daily, and later worked as a staff photographer at Ekstra Bladet before relocating to Bangkok, and later Shanghai, to work on stories in the region. Professionally, when David is not working on stories, he teaches workshops.
David’s long term-term projects have won world wide acclaim including two World Press Photo awards.
David’s work was first recognized in 2004 – winning the Ian Parry Award Scholarship for Mia: Living Life Trying, his long-term project about a prostitute and drug addict in Copenhagen. The Mia project later won two World Press Photo awards in a row. David is also the recipient of four awards in Pictures of the Year (POYi) and four in Best of Photojournalism (BOP/NPPA).
David’s work has reached readers of Newsweek, Time Magazine, Paris Match, Le Monde, Liberation, Colors, Sunday Times Magazine and The New Yorker.
