
Daniel Berehulak is a New Delhi based photographer for the Getty News Service covering the South Asia region and beyond. A native of Sydney, Australia, Daniel studied History at the University of New South Wales. He joined Getty Images in 2002 in Sydney and relocated to London as a staff news photographer for Getty in 2005. Since then he has covered UK news scene, the war in Iraq, the trial of Saddam Hussain and the after effects of Chernobyl. Recently Daniel has worked extensively in Pakistan, from the return of Benazir Bhutto to documenting the effects of the continuing conflict, between the Pakistani army and Taliban, on the displaced populations of Pakistan. Last year Daniel covered both the Indian and Afghan elections, Indonesian Earthquake, and reported on various stories throughout India.
Daniel's work has been recognized at numerous industry awards, including World Press Photo (including 1st prize People In the News 2010), CHIPP (6 awards in 2010 including the Photograph of the year and 3 gold prizes including Picture of the Year in 2010, General News Story, People in the News, Portrait Singles, etc for his work in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan), NPPA's Best of Photojournalism (2007 Honorable Mention Serial Portrait Series), The UK's Picture Editors Awards (Foreign News Photographer of the Year in 2007), Press Photographers Year Award (Photo of the Year and News Folio of the Year in 2008), Sony World Photography Awards (Shortlisted Finalist for Photojournalism 2008), The Press Photographers Year Award (1st prize Live News 2009, 3rd Prize Nature and Environment and 3rd Prize in Spot News 2010), Photographers Giving Back Award (2nd Prize Sport Singles 2009), and UNICEF Photo of the Year (honorable mention 2009).
